Pending the Post Draw

I am now officially convinced. You would be dumb to bet against this horse. Could beat the hell out of pyro any day of the week.

Doing pretty good in the handicapping contest today (Right now 2nd out of about 500). For the Florida Derby I’ve picked 12 Big Brown for the derby, followed up by 1 fierce wind.

That’s 12-1.

Sorry Folks,
Due to the weather, I haven’t been able to get picks up in time. The only thing I will say is that I don’t believe that Pyro will win the LA Derby. I’m going to have to go with #8 Yankee Bravo. Should be interesting. Hopefully there won’t be a terrible winter storm next weekend.

Last week was a bit tough, though it wasn’t like we were off by a lot. I haven’t been able to get a hold of the replays just yet, but would be especially interested in watching the first race. But, it’s all done now. I will be heading to the races on Thursday this week, so If any races jump out at me I”ll be sure to post them. This saturday 3/8/08 I’ll be handicapping Fairgrounds. Enter Bumpus Trex

I promised a guest celebrity handicapper and here he is. Bumpus trex is a fellow horseman that I have handicapped with on and off for the few years. He has a knack for picking long shots and is the best in the business when it comes to picking a trifecta box. He is imparting his knowledge with us for his four races of the day:

Keep in mind that these races were handicapped completely independently.

#1 Bumpus Trex Pick:

Race 3

1.) #6. BT simply said that this is the one that is going to pull it out. For me, no further explanation is necessary.

2.)#3. Said that El Martillo, or The Hammer, has been improving with each race and is on the right track to be on the running this time through.

3.) #8 Screen To Screen. While he thinks that the buying price might have been a bit high, he believes that this horse has the speed and that this the right distance to bring him in for a show.

BT bets:
$15 exacta 1-3
$10 trifecta 6-3-8
$3 trifecta box 6-3-8

#2 Bumpus Trex Pick:

Race 3

1.) #8. Loves the class drop. In addition he believes that #8 definitely has the best class of the rest of the runners. While this is an Optional claimer, there is no claim on this one, so the powers that be must be bringing him in look for a win.

2.) #5. This horse is dropping class and has the history to make it to 2nd.

3.) #3. After a few trips off of the synthetic, this one is coming back to the Santa Anita surface. Should be slowed down enough for third.

Bets:

$3 trifecta box 8-5-3
$4 straight tri 8-5-3
$25 to win on 8

Race 9:
We were rushed on the phone, and all he could say about this race was “This is the one that could make the season”. With that, he told me his bets for the 9th race and then quickly gave me two bets for the 11th so I will pass them on to you.

$4 trifecta box 9-12-6
$5 straight super 9-12-6-2

Race 11:
As mentioned above, he was rushed and could only briefly mention his bets.

Santa Anita Race 9 3/1/08

Ah. This is the big one. With fourteen horses in the post for this bad boy, it should be a fun one to pick! I’m gonna go with the big money makers in this outing.

1.) #9 Celtic Dreamin. Had a great race last time in the 1 million SunMils. Got stuck between to horses and could only pull out second. This one should be going off at long odds and definitely has the skills to pull this one out.

2.) #6 Monterey Jazz. With a 107 speed rating last time out and a victory over Kentucky Derby veteran Tiago, this one is being ridden by one of the most competent jockeys in the business. Has been moving up in class and winning the last few, most notably by 4.5 lengths in the last G2 outing.

3.) #2 Tiago. Had a decent run comparatively in the Ky Derby. Hasn’t done as well since in the last two races, but expect that this one will be in the money.

$15 to win on Celtic Dreamin
$10 exacta 9-6
$5 straight exacta 9-6

Santa Anita Race 8 3/1/08

The Frank E. Kilroe Mile Handicap G1 1 mile Turf

1.) #1 War Monger. Coming of a solid win at the SunMilTurf500k, warmonger and Desormeaux seem to have a good thing going. Trained by Mott, this horse keeps doing bigger and better things with each new and better race.

2.)#4 Artiste Royal. AR tore it up at Santa Anita his last time here in October. He has the experience in this level of races to do well, despite his lackluster trip to Japan. Look for Bejarno driving this horse in a duel with War Monger.

3.) #3 Out of Control. While OOC has not been racing the same level of races as some of the others inthis race, there as not been a lack of success. Has the speed and the training to make it to the money.
